We’re increasing the prices and introducing new budget and high end licenses to reflect the increase in our costs of operations, development, and staffing. The best part is that these price increases don’t happen until May 1st, 2012, meaning you can pick up a license now for a fraction of what it will cost in just a few weeks (yes, wpStoreCart PRO 2.x customers get wpStoreCart PRO 3 for free!) The other best part is we’re going to be providing full service support 24/7/365, with multiple support staff dedicated to solving your issues. To that end, we are switching to a support ticket system that is pay per case. Essentially, if you have an issue, you use a support credit to open a support ticket.

1 Support Credit costs $49.99 (some licenses also include free support credits.) Support credits can be spent on various levels of support tickets:

3 Business Days – Costs 1 Support Credit

1 Business Day – Costs 3 Support Credits

24 hour, 24/7, 365 – Costs 5 Support Credits

Everyone who purchased wpStoreCart PRO 2.x, will receive the same level license to wpStoreCart Professional 3, including the free support credits.

There are now 3 types of licenses for wpStoreCart. The wpStoreCart Bloggers license includes all wpStoreCart addons, but does not come with support other than our community forum. wpStoreCart Professional includes all wpStoreCart addons and Level 1, 2, and 3 support. wpStoreCart Enterprise includes all wpStoreCart addons, and provides an individual case manager, phone support (each call costs 1 support credit) direct access to Level 3 support, and PCI compliance consultation and troubleshooting for wpStoreCart Enterprise powered websites. Here’s the prices and version of wpStoreCart 3, effective May 1st, 2012:

For individuals or companies that do not require support from us:
wpStoreCart Bloggers – 1 DOMAIN – $24.95 USD – 0 Support Ticket Credits
wpStoreCart Bloggers – 2 DOMAIN – $32.95 USD – 0 Support Ticket Credits
wpStoreCart Bloggers – 3 DOMAIN – $40.95 USD – 0 Support Ticket Credits

For companies that gross less than $250,000 USD in sales per year:
wpStoreCart Professional – 1 DOMAIN – $49.99 USD – 1 Support Ticket Credit.
wpStoreCart Professional – 2 DOMAIN – $89.99 USD – 2 Support Ticket Credit.
wpStoreCart Professional – 10 DOMAIN – $399.99 USD – 3 Support Ticket Credits.
wpStoreCart Professional – UNLIMITED DOMAIN – $1299.99 USD – 10 Support Ticket Credits.

Mandatory for companies that gross $250,000 USD in sales or more per year:
wpStoreCart Enterprise – 1 DOMAIN – $1999.99 USD – 12 Support Ticket Credits.
wpStoreCart Enterprise – 2 DOMAIN – $3799.99 USD – 24 Support Ticket Credits.
wpStoreCart Enterprise – 10 DOMAIN – $6799.99 USD – 36 Support Ticket Credits.
wpStoreCart Enterprise – UNLIMITED DOMAIN – $15,799.99 USD – 48 Support Ticket Credits.

So if you’re thinking about buying wpStoreCart PRO, there is no better time than now, since these prices go into effect on May 1st, 2012, there is only two weeks left from the time of this post to take advantage of our lowest prices ever. Just think, you can pick up a wpStoreCart PRO 2.x/3.x Unlimited license now for $89.99, that will cost $1,299.99 in just two weeks! Buy now and enjoy wpStoreCart Professional 3 for a fraction of the launch cost.

P.S. Use this coupon at checkout before May 2nd, 2012, and get $10.00 off any order:

P.P.S. ^ “Gob” Bluth approves of that coupon code.

Continue reading to see a quick video preview of how we’ve redesigned the frontend of wpStoreCart.

We’re excited to announce that wpStoreCart 3 BETA version 1 will be released to 100 beta testers on May 1st, 2012. To sign up for the beta test, leave a comment below with your real email address and we’ll email wpStoreCart 3 BETA 1 on May 1st, 2012. This is a private beta test, and it is recommended that you NOT use it on a live website. You should only use it in isolated testing environments with test data only. Please report any and all issues you experience with the beta version. After we gather your feedback regarding BETA 1, a few weeks later we will release a RELEASE CANDIDATE (RC1) to the general public (as in, anyone can download it.) When all the issues have been ironed out, we’ll finally retire wpStoreCart 2.x and release wpStoreCart 3 to the WordPress plugin repository.

If you’re interested to learn about what’s new in wpStoreCart 3, I recommend you read this extensive overview: http://wpstorecart.com/wpstorecart-3-development-news/ If you’ve already read that article, let me touch on a few features that weren’t fully covered, such as the new frontend and how easy it is to design in realtime, directly in your WordPress theme.

A Complete Rewrite

wpStoreCart 3 has taken over 4 months of development already, largely due to the fact that it is a complete rewrite of the plugin from the ground up. We’ve released hundreds of updates to wpStoreCart 2.x, but at long last it’s time to upgrade and migrate to a more advanced and long range ecommerce foundation. With wpStoreCart 3, we have finally realized the vision we’ve had for wpStoreCart from the beginning, which was to create the best ecommerce platform available, period. Some of the areas where we feel we have fallen short in the 2.x branch have been in the default front end presentations, and with some serious bugs effecting variations and shipping issues. Other than those major issues, we’re very happy with the development and platform that we’ve developed over the last year and a half. However, while we have got a great foundation laid, we’re ready to take wpStoreCart to the next level. Here’s what to expect from wpStoreCart 3:

A Totally New Frontend Experience, with a new Ajax Cart & Checkout

wpStoreCart 2.x gave you an unstyled shopping cart with only one method of checking out. You can’t determine what steps go when, and can only eliminate registration from the process. In wpStoreCart 3, you have a completely new checkout system, and can customize the cart and checkout experience completely. There are also pre-created styles and themes that make skinning the cart and checkout system easy. In addition, there is a realtime CSS editor that uses sliders, color wheels, and other easy to use tools, which allow you to edit and style your site, directly from the frontend using easy to master tools. In fact, you can now edit all of wpStoreCart’s frontend presentation, directly inside your theme. Take a look at this quick video, perhaps it will convey the feature better than I can describe it:

^ the above video is a brief preview of how the front end can be edited using the Designer. This designer is called the “Store Front Designer” Not pictured in this video are the 3 other Designers, the “Products Designer”, the “User Pages Designer” and the “Checkout Designer” all of which function with drag and drop, sliders, color wheels, and other easy to use graphical tools. You can access them from the Admin Bar, both on the frontend and in the admin panel. It can also be accessed from the wpStoreCart 3 admin panel, pictured here:

One thing to mention is that there are many pre-loaded styles, and you can of course save, load, and share your custom setups. You can also hard code them into your theme if you’re redistributing your theme.

A Totally New Variation System

wpStoreCart 2.x stored variations in a confusing, unintuitive manner, without the ability to keep inventory for specific variations. wpStoreCart 3 now treats variations as separate products (or more accurately sub-products) complete with all the same options that a regular product has. The system is cleanly integrated and much more intuitive than the wpStoreCart 2.x variations systems.

All Admin Panels Use Ajax = No More Page Loads

Yes, the admin panel has been redesigned and rewritten, but we also made sure to keep everything arranged and organized the same way you’re used to them. However, all the admin pages now use Ajax, meaning there are no page loads to save or update something. For example, take a look at this screenshot of the settings admin page:

Interested in wpStoreCart 3 BETA?

If all of this seems like something you’re interested in, then make a comment below using your actual email address, and we will email you wpStoreCart 3 BETA 1 on May 1st, 2012. Again, if you haven’t read this article: http://wpstorecart.com/wpstorecart-3-development-news/ then I recommend you check it out, to get a more exhaustive overview of wpStoreCart 3.

We’ve just released wpsc Support Tickets version 1.4.0. In this release you can now see who posted last on a ticket, either a staff member or the ticket creator. This is in the front end, the admin panel, and the admin dashboard widget. Note that staff replies that were made before you updated to this version will not work correctly. We also patched an issue where the registration URL was not always correctly formatted. We updated the admin panel to be ready for alternative language translations. We also patched a few issues where the word Guest was not showing up for the author field of support tickets.

Introduction to wpStoreCart 3 Development

wpStoreCart 3 is in full, active development. It is too early in the development cycle to give firm estimations of when wpStoreCart 3 will be complete, however we are now ready to begin sharing the exciting new features and additions that are coming with wpStoreCart 3. First of all, wpStoreCart 3 is a complete rewrite from scratch, of the entire plugin. We did this so that wpStoreCart can evolve in many new ways, including increased functionality, streamlined performance, and stability improvements, as well as opening the door for easy extendability, modification, and enhanced usability. Rewriting wpStoreCart has allowed all these improvements and much more. Let’s break down what to expect from wpStoreCart 3:

Contents

1 Introduction to wpStoreCart 3 Development

1.1 Functionality Improvements

1.2 Performance Improvements

1.3 Stability Improvements

1.4 Extendability Improvements

1.4.1 Translations

1.4.2 Developing Addons

1.5 Usability Improvements

2 wpStoreCart Alerts

3 Developing with wpStoreCart 3

3.1 Override Any Function

3.2 Action Hooks

3.2.1 Small Selection of Standard Action Hooks

3.3 Admin Menu Menu Hooks

3.3.0.1 List of Admin Menu Action Hooks

3.3.0.2 Example of Adding a New Admin Main Menu

3.3.0.3 List of Admin Sub Menu Action Hooks

3.3.0.4 Example of Using an Admin Submenu Action Hook

4 When is wpStoreCart 3 Going to be Released?

Functionality Improvements

Ajax, ajax, and more ajax. We’ve added jQuery powered Ajax everywhere in wpStoreCart 3. With these new additions, you find that wpStoreCart has gotten a lot easier to administrate. Wherever you see data, you can edit it. Data updates in real time, everything is editable, and from start to finish you’ll find consistent user interfaces.

Performance Improvements

In the world of WordPress plugins, new features often translate into more overhead, resulting in slower page loading times and greater resource usage. However, with wpStoreCart 3, not only did we bring a wealth of new features to the table, but we’ve also spent significant time improving the efficiency of our code. The end result is quicker page loads that use less resources. We’ve managed to see gains as large as 50 times faster compared to wpStoreCart 2.5.12. Although the difference of improvements between wpStoreCart 2.5.12 and wpStoreCart 3 is usually in hundredths of milliseconds, this does add up, especially when you have high traffic volume or when you are using an under-powered or a shared server.

Stability Improvements

The code base was entirely rewritten so as to better protect the stability of the code. wpStoreCart 2.x was a massive, monolithic monster of a code a base. wpStoreCart 3 is a modular, streamlined, and well crafted code base designed to run more stable and to prevent bugs through unit testing.

Extendability Improvements

Translations

Unlike wpStoreCart 2.x, version 3 has full support for i18n translations, for both the front end and backend. This means you can easily use wpStoreCart in your native language fully and completely.

Developing Addons

wpStoreCart 3 makes it simple to develop addons that affect literally any aspect of how wpStoreCart works. We’ve also written several tutorials and step by step guides, as well as providing full API documentation. That’s right, wpStoreCart 3 has it’s own exhaustive developer’s API, as well as sample skeleton addons, and also code examples for every single one of our API calls. You will find developing with and for wpStoreCart 3 to be as simple as developing for WordPress.

Usability Improvements

If you prefer the administration style of wpStoreCart 2.x, don’t worry, it’s all still there (albeit in a fancy new ajaxified user interface.) However, one of our core improvements are the new Wizards. You can literally setup, manage, and run wpStoreCart using nothing but the wizards. We have 3 main wizards, the “Configure Settings”, “Design Your Store”, and the “Sell Your Products” wizards. The “Configure Your Settings” wizard allows you to quickly change the setting, or settings you wish, all with clearly worded explanations and examples so that you never change the wrong thing. The “Design Your Store” wizard will prove to be highly popular, as it allows you to literally drag and drop to create your store’s appearance. No more tweaking obscure settings. Instead, just drag and drop your store until it looks exactly how you want it. Finally, the “Sell Your Products” wizard will help you list, promote, and sell your products. To manage your on-going store tasks, you will use the new wpStoreCart Alerts system:

wpStoreCart Alerts

Alerts are not a new concept in wpStoreCart, but the way they work has improved drastically in wpStoreCart 3. Now, you can set alerts for virtually anything, and receive a text message, email, or notice directly on your desktop (via wpStoreCart Desktop Alert.) Not only that, but Alerts are now per user, so multi-admin sites can now work through Alerts together. In additions, you can fully configure what and when you will be alerted. For example, you can easily create custom alerts based off of X number of _____. For example, you can set up wpStoreCart to issue a text message alert that repeats daily when an item needs to be shipped, or when inventory is less than 4, or when no sales have occurred in a 12 hour period, etc.

Developing with wpStoreCart 3

In wpStoreCart 2.x, it was nearly impossible to make an addon. In wpStoreCart 3.x, it is as easy as finding the right Action Hook or overriding the right function. wpStoreCart 3 is modular, allowing you to develop addons that are future proof, and that do not require you to edit any wpStoreCart file at all. Now, plugins and themes can extend wpStoreCart in any way imaginable, while not breaking or being overwritten after each update. wpStoreCart 3 is a developers dream ecommerce platform. Easily extendable, fully documented, and completely modular.

Override Any Function

Although we strongly discourage and do not recommend doing so, we’ve made it possible for you to over ride every single function inside wpStoreCart. That means, you can change any aspect of how wpStoreCart operates.

Action Hooks

WordPress is built off of Action Hooks, and so is wpStoreCart 3. Using these action hooks, theme and plugin developers, as well as power user WordPress admins will be able to easily extend, change, or otherwise “hook” into wpStoreCart, and easily create mods and addons that will work now and with future versions of wpStoreCart.

Small Selection of Standard Action Hooks

wpsc_loaded – Called before anything else. This is the earliest hook.

wpsc_compatibility – Executes code to make wpStoreCart compatible with as many server configurations as possible.

wpsc_installer_check – Called to see if we need to install or upgrade wpStoreCart

wpsc_installer_install – Called when beginning to install wpStoreCart database schema

wpsc_installer_upgrade – Called if we need to upgrade wpStoreCart

wpsc_admin – The first aspect of wpStoreCart administration. This code is run by all users, so do not hook into this for admin only function, instead use wpsc_isadmin hook instead. Called before wpStoreCart initializes.

wpsc_isadmin – Executes for admins and super admins only, and only if they are within the admin panel.

wpsc_alert – Executes to provide the wpStoreCart Alerts

Admin Menu Menu Hooks

Developers, you can now add your own wpStoreCart admin pages, as well as new menus, as well as new submenu entries inside of menus, all using WordPress Action Hooks. This means you’ll never have to edit wpStoreCart itself to extend it in whatever you wish. Below are the action hooks to tie into for each menu. After the list, we’ll include an example of adding a new entry to the Help menu.

Example of Adding a New Admin Main Menu

While we strongly discourage developers from adding additional admin main menus because of lack of space (instead, we recommend you use one of the submenus and add your entries in an existing main menu) nevertheless, we’ve provided the ability to easily add your own admin main menu. For main menu icons, you should use a 20x20px image as an icon, and attach the .wpsc-admin-menu-icon class to the img tag. For submenu icons, you should use a 16x16px image as an icon, and attach the .wpsc-admin-submenu-icon class to the img tag. Here’s an example in action, where we add a new main menu called “Example” directly before the Help menu. Pay special attention to the construction of the menu.

function myCustomMenu() {

    echo '<li>
<a href="#"><img src="'. WP_PLUGIN_URL . '/wpstorecart3/wpstorecart/admin/img/wpsc_customers.png" class="wpsc-admin-menu-icon" /> Example</a>
<ul>
<li><img src="'. WP_PLUGIN_URL . '/wpstorecart3/images/user_suit.png" class="wpsc-admin-submenu-icon" /> <a href="#">Submenu 1</a></li>
<li><img src="'. WP_PLUGIN_URL . '/wpstorecart3/images/group.png" class="wpsc-admin-submenu-icon" /> <a href="#">Submenu 2</a></li>
</ul>
</li>';
}

add_action('wpsc_admin_menu_before_help', 'myCustomMenu', 1);

List of Admin Sub Menu Action Hooks

wpsc_admin_menu_inside_dashboard – Dashboard

wpsc_admin_menu_inside_settings – Settings

wpsc_admin_menu_inside_products – Products

wpsc_admin_menu_inside_customers – Customers

wpsc_admin_menu_inside_orders – Orders

wpsc_admin_menu_inside_marketing – Marketing

wpsc_admin_menu_inside_affiliates – Affiliates

wpsc_admin_menu_inside_statistics – Statistics

wpsc_admin_menu_inside_help – Help

Example of Using an Admin Submenu Action Hook

In this example, I’m going to add a new menu entry to the Help menu. You should use a 16x16px image as an icon, and attach the .wpsc-admin-submenu-icon class to the img tag.

function myCustomHelpEntry() {
echo '<li><img src="'. WP_PLUGIN_URL . '/wpstorecart3/images/application_form_edit.png" class="wpsc-admin-submenu-icon" /> <a href="http://wpstorecart.com">Visit wpStoreCart</a></li>';
}

add_action('wpsc_admin_menu_inside_help', 'myCustomHelpEntry', 1);

When is wpStoreCart 3 Going to be Released?

When it’s close to done, we will be releasing BETA versions. We hope to have the first beta available in Spring 2012. In the meantime, some bug fixes from wpStoreCart 3 will be backported to wpStoreCart 2.x. We cannot give a specific ETA when wpStoreCart 3 will be ready. It could be in two weeks or it could be in two months or more. It all depends on how the development progresses. We’ll keep you up to date. Please feel free to leave any questions in the comments below.
